Inclusive Growth and Sustainability Transitions in Emerging Economies

    Joint Call for Papers

Institute of Globalization and Global Issues,

China University of Political Science and Law  &

Elementa, Journal of University of California Press

The Institute of Globalization and Global Issues, China University of Political Science and Law and the journal of University of California Press, Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene, are now jointly hosting the conference on the theme of “Inclusive Growth and Sustainability Transitions in Emerging Economies” on March 31, 2022, and inviting paper submissions for the conference and the corresponding proposed special feature for the journal.

Established by China University of Political Science and Law on April 26, 2007, the Institute of Globalization and Global Issues is a research institute and a department under its direct supervision. The Institute of Globalization and Global Issues focuses on modern society's new challenges and problems brought by globalization and global issues. It explored the interactive process of global governance and state governance. The institute is the founder of China's academic discipline of Global Studies and a substantial incubator for Chinese scholars to execute Global Studies. (Also see http://qqhyjs.cupl.edu.cn/)

Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene is an open access and transdisciplinary academic journal that focuses on accelerating scientific solutions to the challenges from human impact. It is structured by four knowledge domains; the conference and the proposed special feature are co-organized by the domain of Sustainability Transitions, which encourages the “contributions that advance knowledge on shifting society-environment interactions to sustainability”. Elementa is a premium international journal of SCI 1st Quarter with a great Impact Factor of 6.053. For a detailed introduction of the journal and the knowledge domain please refer to: https://online.ucpress.edu/elementa/pages/sustainabilitytransitions.

The upcoming conference and the special feature, under the guidance of Dr. Yuwei Shi, Associate Editor of Elementa’s Sustainability Transitions and Professor at University of California Santa Cruz, and guest editors: Dr. Rui Lin, Academic Chair of COSRI Group, Dr. Wei Wang, Associate Professor of Minzu University of China, Dr. Kai Qi, Associate Professor of China University of Political Science and Law, Dr. Na Sai, Associate Professor of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences will be expected to have constructive discussions for the practice, perspectives, and challenges, including those novel and controversial ones, on sustainability transitions in the area of inclusive growth with a focus on emerging and developing economies.

As the world is facing the impact of economic downturn led by the unprecedented pandemic, it is believed that conducting such academic discussions would be particularly valuable for emerging and developing economies, which had grown rapidly before the impact and are apparently more vulnerable in current. Meanwhile, addressing domestic/regional/global challenges that these economies will face in terms of sustainability transitions would also be forward-looking.

Submissions and presentations may be from different disciplines such as public policy/public administration, economics/public finance, political science, international relation, management science, etc., and/or be transdisciplinary. Research questions may range from the studies on the successes and challenges of these economies, policy incentives/disincentives and optimizations including their models and processes, the distinct roles of the stakeholders and their participation in their society-environment interactions, to the transnational/regional cooperation among these economies.

Topics of the papers may focus on the following areas (non-exhaustive)

    • Comparative studies on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)-related inclusive growth in emerging and developing economies

    • Roles and transitions of governance/public policies related to inclusive growth

    • Agriculture-related economic factors and sustainability transitions

    • Environmental sustainability and inclusive growth

    • International trade/Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)/supply chain and sustainability transitions

    • Digital economy/financial inclusion and inclusive growth
